Offenders earn RHS award

The RHS has awarded the Windlesham Trophy 2011 to inmates at HM Prison Thorn Cross in Cheshire for the best-kept prison gardens in England and Wales.

Thirty male prisoners at the young offenders institution manage the gardens, which include flower beds, a conservation area, an animal shelter and polytunnels producing fruit and vegetables for use in the main kitchens.
