Oatridge Conference experts to tackle recession in Scotland

The new Oatridge Conference in West Lothian aims to help Scotland's growers, greenkeepers, garden designers, landscape architects and local authorities to overcome problems caused by the recession.

Among the speakers at the one-day event on 26 November will be FBD Consultancy director Brian Wright, who will advise delegates on practising sound financial management in challenging times.

Gillian Craig, senior associate with MacRoberts LLP, will speak about "essential protections when contracting", with an emphasis on getting paid for work carried out.

Donald Wemyss, landscaping consultant and part of the team behind the event, said: "The conference is a direct response to calls from the industry in Scotland for practical advice on how to weather climate change and the recession."

Other speakers at the Oatridge Conference will be climate change expert Dr David Reay of the University of Edinburgh and Paul Mathers and Iain Gulland of WRAP, which is one of the main sponsors of the event along with Pod compost.

Supporters include ScotGrow, Lantra, BALI, the Institute of Horticulture and Bellwood Trees.

Industry personality Jim McColl will chair the day's discussions.
