Nursery relocates to share facilities and markets

John Robinson Houseplants has relocated to the Golden Acres Nursery in West Parley, Dorset, in a bid to pull company resources together and rationalise facilities.

The move has seen the company, which employs nine staff, move from its base in Romsey to the Golden Acres Nursery site near Bournemouth Airport and change its name to House Plants Direct.

Group operations director Simon Edwards said: "House Plants Direct is a separate company, now situated on the Golden Acres site. It's a question of sharing facilities. The company has always had a link to Golden Acres Nursery through our managing director and our company accountant."

He said the economic climate was not the main driving force for the move, which "would have happened anyway", and said it offered both companies the opportunity to explore different markets.

"There are undoubtedly other marketplaces out there and we can work with each other's customers and, indeed, in markets outside of garden retail," said Edwards.

He continued: "I'm quite pleased all round that it's gone well. Everyone has worked well together and everybody is now settling down to work together."
