Nursery launches online training

Landscape architects can now receive plant training online, following the launch of a specialist website aimed at designers this month.

Robin Tacchi Plants has developed a website providing soft landscaping training based on its nursery-based workshops.

Launched last week, www.plantingthefuture.co.uk features videos presented by plant consultant Tony Fry. The videos cover topics including selecting pot and plant sizes in relation to densities and budgets, growing medium and identifying good-quality plants.

They also provide in-depth information about different types of landscape plants, including shrubs, grasses, ground-cover, climbers, perennials and ferns.

Managing director Robin Tacchi said: "Landscape plants must be fit for purpose - healthy, strong, robust and the right size. The right specifications will result in well-performing, lasting landscapes."

A guide called Spec21 supports the videos. It provides detailed specifications and guidance on a wide range of landscape plants.

The whole project arose from the popularity of Robin Tacchi Plants' workshops, which led to enquiries about a way of distributing information and training online.

Townshend Landscape Architects principal Robert Townshend has attended the workshops and said the training would prove invaluable. "Our new young members of staff have yet to gain experience and knowledge of the use of plants in soft landscaping," he added.
