Notcutts garden centres become 55 per cent peat-free

Notcutts Garden Centres has become the second independent garden centre retailer, joining Ayletts, to achieve full membership of the Growing Media Initiative, having proved that more than 55 per cent of the growing media and soil improvers they have sold in bags is peat free.

The HTA's Growing Media Initiative (GMI) aims to help the industry work with the Government to reduce the use of peat in horticulture.

Gold members Vital Earth and Melcourt, have proved that 90 per cent of their bagged compost is peat-free.

Ayletts, Westland, Homebase and White Moss Horticulture are also full members.
