North Wales colleges merge

The Welsh College of Horticulture has joined forces with nearby Deeside College following the approval from the Welsh Assembly Government.

The new combined institution will provide courses for about 20,000 students each year, employ over 800 staff and have an annual income of nearly £30m.

Principal of the merged college David Jones said: "This will bring together two very successful further-education colleges in north-east Wales. We have the skills, capacity and experience to establish the college as an international centre of excellence for further education and vocational learning."
