Landscape architect Noel Farrer of Farrer Huxley Associates has been elected as the next Landscape Institute president.

Farrer who has chaired the institute's policy committee for a number of years and is a Horticulture Week columnist,  will take over from current incumbent Sue Illman on 1 July 2014. He will remain in post for two years.

A landscape architect of 30 years’ experience Farrer is sought out for his work by both private and public sector clients.

He set up urban and landscape design practice Farrer Huxley Associates 18 years ago and now says he wants to use his presidency to raise the profile of the Landscape Institute, increase membership and argue for investment in training.

"I would like to see the charity become a known forum for learning and debate on issues surrounding landscape," he said.

His most well-known work includes the Parkland Walk Green Corridor linking residential areas from Alexandra Palace to Finsbury Park, north London.

He also worked on the Broadwater Farm Landscape Project, which helped to calm tensions and reunite the community after the riot there in 1985.
