No leads in garden centre elf theft but Christmas sales up

Woodcote Green Garden Centre in Surrey has given up hope of finding the £500 electric elf stolen from a charity Christmas display earlier this month.

MD Phil Barnden said the thieves, who he believes he has caught on CCTV have "gone to ground".

Barnden said widespread publicity around the theft may have boosted sales this December, which he added are better than 2009 and 2010.

He said the Christmas grotto was fully booked and he had ordered 50 extra Christmas trees after stocks sold out.
