Nigel Thorne travelled to Brussels to take part in the European Foundation for Landscape Architecture's (EFLA) executive council and general assembly on 20-22 November.
He was nominated to stand as president and was officially voted into the role. "It is a remarkable challenge," he said.
The role will involve the promotion of landscape architecture across the EU member states.
