New wholesale plant cash and carry sets up on permanent site

Former Johnsons of Whixley branch manager and ALB Plants sales director Simon Lord has set up a new wholesale cash and carry.

The business, Mulberry Plants Limited near Reading, will supply nursery stock of mid-size and above to the landscaping industry. Lord plans to start the production of ferns and shrubs when the business is established.

The nursery opened in October and has just moved onto its permanent site.

Lord was managing director of wholesale plant supplier ALB Plants for the previous year and before that managed Johnsons of Whixley’s cash and carry business.

Lord said he is hoping to use his 26 year’s of experience in the industry to provide a personal service to customers.

"We are a small independent business so it’s going to rely on my experience," he said.

"We’re going to be supplying garden designers, landscapers and property developers. We’ve already got some big names coming to us."
