Morgan, who was named vice-chair just last month, has a strong education focus as she is a former head of the landscape horticulture and design faculty at Hadlow College and programme leader for the Garden Design degree course. She is currently a visiting lecturer in horticulture and garden design and external verifier at colleges around the UK and runs Sarah Morgan Gardens.
O’Brien has used her time on raising the profile of the Society of Garden Designers (SGD)and encouraging more people to engage with the Registration process.
She said: "Garden design is becoming more professional than ever before and the standard of students entering from the colleges is rising fast.
"I am very proud of the fact that all members both registered and pre-registered are now insured and that practice membership is now available. This demonstrates that the industry is moving forward with purpose and professionalism. I am sure that Sarah has the talent and ability to help the Society achieve its ambitions in the years ahead."
Morgan, an SGD Registered Member for 20 years and a long-standing member of the SGD Council, was unanimously voted in.
She said the promotion was slightly quicker than anticipated, but that she felt privileged to have the opportunity to take on the exciting challenge.
