New sales concept designed to boost sales

A new selling concept in floral marquees should boost sales, according to Horticulture Exhibitors Association chairman Kelvin Harbutt.

"We are launching a new format. Instead of two or four tables, this year we want the space set out as exhibitors want," he explained.

A tiering concept would differentiate displays, the Rougham Hall Nurseries owner added.

Despite escalating transport and stand space costs making returns hard to get, it should a be a good first half of the season before shows in July and August are hit by the Olympics, Harbutt added.

Meanwhile, 2012 will mark the last Chelsea Flower Show for Broadleigh Gardens managing director Lady Skelmersdale  2012 because of the expense and effort involved. The bulb grower said: "I no longer want to organise my life around them."

She will continue exhibiting at the RHS London shows, Tatton Park and others.
