Each gave a short presentation of their work, ranging from plant nutrition to post-harvest physiology.
"In the short term, East Malling Trust is funding the new posts," explained EMR chief executive Professor Peter Gregory.
"It typically takes scientists around two years before they can bring in new money to fund research, and we worked out how much that might reasonably be.
"But they are exceeding expectations because they are already starting to win funds from other organisations. We expect our income to be £700,000 higher this year than last."
