The Woodland Trust has launched its Charter for Trees, Woods and People at Lincoln Castle, in a bid to raise the public profile of threats to Britain's trees.

Woodland Trust's website dedicated to the Charter has received over 115,000 signatures, while more than 70 organisations and 300 local community groups have been involved.

It said the charter will help combat "the unprecedented pressures from development, pests, diseases and climate change, and provide guidance and inspiration across government, communities and individuals".
The launch date (6 November 2017) marked the 800th anniversary of the 1217 Charter of the Forest from the reign of King Henry III, of which only two originals remain, one housed at the castle.
