National Fruit Show best apple storage winners revealed

The National Fruit Show's Long-Term Farm Stored competition winners were announced at its Top Fruit Storage Day at East Malling Research last week.

First prize in the Bramley class, sponsored by ICA, was won by Kent grower Newmafruit Farms, which took the Farmura Trophy. The winner in the Cox class, sponsored by STS, was North Downs grower Simon Bray, carrying off the Marks & Spencer Trophy.

The "any other variety" class, also sponsored by STS, was taken by Blackmoor Estate's Gala apples, while the estate's packhouse manager Andy Stocker also won the Ron Tassell Trophy for best all-round exhibit.

Winner in the pear category, sponsored by Scorpion Engineering, was Kent grower JL Baxter.
