The National Forest Company (NFC) leads the creation of the Government-funded National Forest in Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire. It is funded by Government as a demonstration project of modern multi-purpose forestry and the benefits it can bring to local communities and economies.Nearly eight million trees have been planted across the forest’s 320sq km and the woodland area has trebled since the project began.
NFC chair Dinah Nichols said: "We are delighted that the Government has shown such confidence in the National Forest Company. It means we can continue to do the job we are set up to do and we look forward to doing that with our many friends and partners. Our aim is for a transformed landscape, a beautiful place to live in and visit and jobs based around forestry and tourism. We are well on the way to that and the confidence of Government is very important as we move forward."
