Monty Don: 'I am the complete champion of independent nurseries' - but not garden centres

Monty Don has reiterated his dislike for garden centres in a tweet.

The Gardeners’ World presenter tweeted: "I am complete champion of independent nurseries: I am their/your biggest fan and have not set foot in [a] garden centre for years."

Norfolk Nursery Hedgehog Gardens owner Simon McWilliams replied: "Unfortunately from our perspective it feels we are unsupported by TV gardeners. Flower show coverage rarely shows nurseries. Why doesn't Gardeners’ World do more to support British independent nurseries instead of telling viewers to go to garden centres?"

Don responded: "I am sorry you feel that because it’s not so. I am spending all tomorrow filming nurseries at Hampton. I am 100 per cent with you."

Last year Don said he had not visited a garden centre for a decade.
