MJ Abbott bags golf-course job

MJ Abbott has crowned a number of recent big contract wins with another scoop, for a golf-course irrigation job.

The firm will supply a fully automatic system to water greens, tees, fairways, approaches, walkways and green surrounds at Royal Portrush Golf Club.

"We chose MJ Abbott because of its wealth of expertise in irrigation," said Wilma Erskine, secretary of the club in Northern Ireland.

The project on both Dunluce and Valley courses includes a new 125cu m per hour pump station, a 650cu m water-storage tank, upgraded electrics and five new boreholes.

Work is due to start this month and finish next March, and the project follows a run of big wins for MJ Abbott, based in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

The specialist sports turf contractor installed irrigation at La Moye Golf Club, one of the most prestigious venues in the Channel Islands, earlier this year.

MJ Abbott was also chosen to carry out extensive remedial work to the Torrance Course at Fairmont St Andrews involving a re-modelling of the 18 holes.
