Second-quarter overall sales rose by 0.2 per cent in the 10 weeks to 12 July, after an 8.1 per cent fall in the first quarter.
Kingfisher said worldwide sales fell 1.5 per cent in the 10 weeks to 12 July. Sales in the past 23 weeks dropped by 2.9 per cent. Chief executive Ian Cheshire said: "The UK market remains extremely tough but we are trading solidly."
Millbrook operations director Tammy Woodhouse said: "Furniture is really struggling. The credit crunch is to blame."
Meanwhile, independents cannot compete with B&Q prices.
