Marlows managing director and businessman Tony Williams remembered

Tony Williams, managing director of Marlows DIY & Garden Centre, has died.

He started his working career at the local newspaper and later moved to Marlows Hollow Road, Bury St Edmunds, where he began by managing the small shop, selling off-cuts from the builders' trade counter. Over almost 40 years he grew the business and it now employs more than 50 people.

He was also an active member of the Garden Centre Association and a passionate believer in independent businesses. His wife Liz and daughter Sarah were involved in many of his business ventures over the years, with support from his second daughter Hannah.

His funeral was on 7 October and Williams was buried at Culford Woodland. Any cards of sympathy or donations may be passed on via Armstrongs, St Andrew Street North, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The centre is currently for sale through Quinton Edwards.
