Mackays reports increased turnover for 2010

Food manufacturer Mackays has announced a £12.5m turnover for 2011, a nine per cent increase since 2010, and plans to expand further.

Mackays owns preserve brand Mrs Bridges, popular among garden centres and independent retailers.

Managing director Paul Grant said: "In 16 years, we've gone from £10,000 in branded sales a year to more than £12.5m."

Grant said his ambition was for Mackays to be known as a marmalade brand around the world. His priorities include building the Mackays and Mrs Bridges brands overseas and at home, focusing on being a more efficient manufacturer and ensuring a smooth succession to his son as managing director.

He added that Scottish local soft fruit was important to Mackays: "We need the Scottish Government to continue supporting the food producers and farming industry in Scotland. It's about trying to ensure that the UK's credibility in the world's trade arena is maintained in these difficult economic times."
