This year’s 10th annual Horticulture Week top garden centres data and analysis shows figures running up to coronavirus crisis lockdown, which closed garden retail from 23 March to mid-May.

Garden centres have bounced back since, but many were 50% down year-to-date when they reopened and are even now running on lower catering incomes in the aftermath of the crisis.

There are three new entries in the top 10 - Blue Diamond East Bridgford, Hayes and Gordale.

The new ranking includes many of the uplifted former Wyevales, now owned by Dobbies, Blue Diamond and others.

The threshold to get in the list remained at £3.5m.

The Top 150 UK Garden Centres 2020 also includes leading buyers and groups lists.

Longacres' Mike Ainley said Longacres was delighted to come out on top again and added on recent sales: "Trade was strong through July and August. Eat Out was very successful and prompted lots of positive feedback from diners. Even on the non-Eat Out days the numbers remained healthy. We’ve carried on a 25% off breakfast offer to keep up the momentum."

The Surrey-based four centre group is still confirming Christmas activities.
