Long Lane Garden Centre opens furniture shop

A garden centre run for people with social and mental-health problems is to open a town centre shop to sell garden furniture.

Long Lane Garden Centre in north Warrington, Cheshire, will sell wooden tables, chairs and bird feeders, made by clients of the garden centre, from a disused solicitors' office.

Coordinator Kathryn Jones said: "We received funding for a woodwork room a few years ago and joiners train the team to build furniture out of old pallets."

The site also has polytunnels and sells home-grown ornamental and edible plants as well as locally-sourced fruit and vegetables and other foods.

Walton Lea Project, a charity formed 13 years ago to train and employ adults with learning difficulties, runs the garden centre, part-funded by local social services.
