London College of Garden Design gets off to a flying start

The founders of the London College of Garden Design (LCGD) were undeterred by the economic challenges ahead as the new school ran its first classes this week.

RHS chief assessor Andrew Wilson, garden designer Andrew Fisher Tomlin and landscape contractor Mark Gregory launched the college during a reception on 21 January.

Fisher Tomlin said the response to the school had surpassed expectations: "A lot of people tell me it is a tough time to start a business, but we've been blown away by the response we've had."

The LCGD, based in Regent's Park, was set to kick off its short course series on Tuesday (27 January) with a workshop entitled Winning Business in a Tough Market.

The school's one-year garden design diploma course will begin in September and director of garden design studies Wilson said he hoped his excitement would prove "infectious". Carol Klein, Luciano Giubbilei and Jinny Blom will feature in a day of talks on 25 April.
