Local government minister John Healey heaps praise on Salford's grounds maintenance team

Local government minister John Healey visited Salford yesterday (28 April) to give his support to the council's parks staff.

John Healey visited Salford as part of a countrywide tour to recognise the UK's unsung heroes.

During his visit to Salford he met the city council's grounds maintenance team member Garry Barker, who has been working in horticulture in the area's parks for 15 years.

John Healey said: "Many hard-working council staff doing frontline jobs in Lancashire deserve a fair day's pay and a decent pension when they retire.

"I want to see an end to the council cat-calling that unfairly runs down those who do so much to serve the public."
