Local authority to offer wireless internet access at outdoor sports sites.

Telford & Wrekin Council is to make wireless internet access available across various play and outdoor sporting venues across the borough.

"We have a high-speed network that links all council buildings and schools through a mix of fibre and wireless infrastructure for data and voice," said a spokesman.

"As part of an ongoing project there is a requirement to install wireless hot spots in other areas – transmitting a wireless signal up to 100 metres in an unobstructed radius."

From 1 December customers will log on to the internet using their Flex or library cards, he said of the 17 sites including Telford Tennis Centre and Telford United football club.

Councillor Shaun Davies said: "We are committed to make it as easy as possible for residents to access the internet and wifi will be available across more sites."
