Leeds-Bradford to host event for parks managers

Green space managers wanting to learn new skills in community engagement, raising income and service delivery can take part in an intensive three-day learning programme run by CABE Space.

The next CABE Space Leaders Programme is being held in Leeds-Bradford from 10-13 February.

The 2009 conference is the fourth year of the leaders programme, and will also mark the first year Natural England has been joint sponsor with CABE Space.

"Good-quality green spaces encourage healthy lifestyles and active play, are socially inclusive, attractive and economically vibrant as well as being environmentally sustainable," said CABE Space director Sarah Gaventa.

"This increased profile brings new challenges for those managing green space, particularly those working at a strategic level. The CABE Space Leaders Programme supports green space managers in meeting these challenges."

Gaventa added that the event would help green space managers improve parks now as well as for the future.

This year's programme was attended by 90 delegates and covered issues including strategic approaches to green space management, design of parks, communicating the benefits of parks, and parks as a service for people.

Horticulture Week will be covering the programme and producing a post-event supplement.
