Delivering more aggressive torque, increased bite and greater throughput and efficiency the chippers are suited to timber and brash material and should appeal to tree surgeons and grounds maintenance teams.
Ensuring Stage V Emissions compliance, the EVO 165 6.5in chipper is offered in 37hp petrol or 25hp diesel versions – the latter being compensated by a new, heavier flywheel weighing 101kg. Both machines have wide infeed hoppers of 0.7m x 1.10m to reduce trimming and the infeed throats, with twin horizontal rollers, measure 16.5cm x 22cm. Throughput is recorded at 4.25 tonnes per hour. Roller speed and chip size are adjustable.
For ease of daily maintenance all grease points have been mounted in a bank on the side and the 33-litre transparent fuel tank has a wide opening for convenient fuelling.
A new design of safety bar has been incorporated with lower pivot points to reduce the nuisance of tripping and offer a better inflow of material. Sealed buttons on either side control the throttle and roller direction, with the emergency stop button on top of the hopper. The EVO series retains Greenmech’s no-stress control system and carries the company’s patented Disc Blades to provide in excess of 900 chipping hours before replacement.
Towing licences are required for both machines, the petrol 165P weighing in at 880kg and the diesel increasing to 1,000kg. With acoustic foam fitted to the engine compartment and re-flowed 280deg rotating discharge chute, sound power (LWA) is measured at 114dB(A) and 115dB(A) respectively - making them Greenmech’s quietest chippers to date.
Introducing what is expected to be the start of a new family of woodchippers from Greenmech, sales director Martin Lucas said: "As the requirements of today’s arborists continue to evolve, it’s vital that we as manufacturers are listening to them and providing them with the tools to meet their growing demands. The EVO 165 is designed to do just that, with years of developments and trials going on behind the scenes to create our most efficient chipper to date. This launch marks just the beginning of our EVO development programme."
The chippers are built on a one-piece fabricated chassis for strength and come with a spare wheel locked to the side plus LED lights. Standard lighting is available where vehicle compatibility remains an issue. EVO 165P petrol model costs £15,250 + VAT. The diesel 165D is priced at £17,750 + VAT.
