Klondyke buys Byrkley Garden Centre

Klondyke Group Limited, owners of Klondyke Garden Centres and Strikes Garden Centres, have bought Byrkley Garden Centre at Rangemore, Burton-Upon-Trent, Staffordshire.

The acquisition increases the total number of garden centres to 25, with the annual group turnover approaching £50 million.

Klondyke chairman Bob Gault said: "We are very pleased to acquire Byrkley, a large ‘destination’ garden centre which has been a well run family owned business for over 20 years. The acquisition is a valuable strategic addition for the Klondyke Group that will complement our existing portfolio of garden centres."

Frank and Mike Thompstone, the former owners, said, ‘We are extremely proud of Byrkley Garden Centre and the success it has become since its inception almost 25 years ago.  We are greatly indebted to our loyal and hard working staff who were recognised with the GCA Best People Award in 2009.  We are pleased that Anna Thompstone is being retained as part of the management team and we look forward to seeing the business prosper in the future for both the new owners and their staff.'

The acquisition was funded from existing resources within the Klondyke group.

Klondyke Group were advised by Hill Dickinson, solicitors, Liverpool. The vendors were advised by Alexander Mackie Associates and Browne Jacobson.
