The movement of staff at garden centre suppliers has continued with the appointment of Phil Tushingham as Smart Solar sales director with overall responsibility for the company's revenues in the UK and Europe.

He has spent the last 12 years at Gardman, which Smart Solar investor Paris Natar founded before selling in 2007.

Last week, Sue Sharp joined Smart Solar from Gardman as customer services manager.

At Gardman, Tim Goff is new category and purchasing director having come from Phones4U. He was previously at Pets at Home. Paul Murden is joining as international sales director and Chris Clark is national sales director. Emma Clarke is a new accounts manager for Homebase and discount stores.

Gardman has also appointed former Solus category manager Henry Corbett to work on new product and brand development.

Former Gardman chief executive Mark Pearson joined Solus in November 2013.

In January 2014, the man Pearson replaced, Nick Davies, left Solus after 29 years to set up a new garden centre distribution business with former colleague Andy Abraham, called Crest Garden.

Colin Smart is now at Crest as commercial director, having moved from Gardman after a longer stint at Solus.

Crest is now working with Westland, while Solus is tying up a merger with Scotts.
