Jobs in jeopardy as plant faces closure

Prepared foods supplier 2 Sisters Food Group has said its Northamptonshire-based Solway Foods plant, which produces fresh salads and sandwiches, is at risk of closure, putting at least 900 jobs at risk.

It said in a statement: "Despite considerable investment over the past two years, the scale of the continuing investment required means the site would potentially not be viable in the long term."

The firm is in a six-week consultation process with staff, with "all options" being looked at. Unionised staff at the plant voted last month to strike over pay and working practices, but 2 Sisters has denied that this is related to the threat of closure.
