Project: Refurbishing a play area
Client: Ellistown and Battleflat Parish Council
Contractor: Miracle Design and Play
A tired and rundown play area in Leicestershire has been transformed into a green space for young children following a £90,000 project. The South Street play project in Ellistown was funded by the Government's Playbuilder scheme, the Sence Valley Environmental Improvement Forum and Ellistown and Battleflat Parish Council.
Local children were given the opportunity to work with the parish council and North West Leicestershire District Council to choose the equipment and have an input into the design of the play space.
The project, which was awarded to Northampton firm Miracle Design and Play, involved the removal of all the existing equipment and surfacing and turning the tarmacadamed area into a green space. The playground includes a maypole swing, a boulder pile, a free-running wall, a grass amphitheatre and a zip line.
The work took around 12 weeks to complete and the play area was opened last month. It will be followed by the opening of a similar play space at the Racecourse in Northampton, created in collaboration with TC Landscapes.
