IoH competition open for entries

This year's Institute of Horticulture (IoH) Young Horticulturist of the Year competition is open for entries, with a prize fund of £10,000. The IoH says 1,500 students aged under 30 on 31 July are expected to enter.

Patrick Wiltshire won the 2008 national final and is planning to spend his bursary travelling North America in search of both native and cultivated American plants.

The sponsor for the 2009 contest is the Shropshire Horticultural Society, which provides the £2,000 Percy Thrower Trust Travel Bursary.

The HDC is providing £1,000 prize money for the national final, to take place at the National Botanical Gardens of Wales on 9 May.

Bulldog Tools and MorePeople are also sponsors.
