Indicator to aid park assessment

Cabe Space director extols Quality indicator as useful gauge of user opinion

Government advisory body CABE Space revealed its latest plans to promote the value of parks at a London conference last week. Speaking the Groundwork/London Parks and Green Spaces Forum event “Tomorrow’s Open Spaces: Managing Change at City Hall”, CABE Space director Julia Thrift told parks professionals the Public Space Quality Indicator would be a useful tool to gauge users’ opinions: “It will be a tool to help you know whether you are succeeding.” Later this month, CABE Space will release research into the economic value of green spaces. Thrift said indicators showed that green space made property prices rise, as did avenues of trees leading away from parks. Buildings facing parks are more successful than those backing them, she added.
