Last week saw the eighth annual open day of Italian plant importer Classiflora Imports. Visitor numbers surpassed the previous year’s figures, with around 480 attending the two-day event at Park View Nursery, Crewes Hill, London.
Some 50 lines of stock were on view to garden centre buyers, including Italian favourites such as Olea europaea, Rosmarinus officinalis and citrus trees along with a large range of topiary.
By the end of the first day, popular lines such as gnarled olive trees, with 40-50cm girths, and unusual lines such as Taxus baccata Fastigiata Aurea and Ceanothus griseus horizontalis had been reserved. Over both days, enough orders were placed to keep the company busy for six weeks.
Classiflora accounts manager Iain Pentney said: “The open days are a well-received showcase of what we supply. When customers think of our range it is the displays that will come to mind.”
Other companies showcased their products at the event, including London-based organic fertiliser and multi-purpose compost producer Terra Eco, JCB United Fork Trucks and Cambridgeshire-based Greenfield Software.
Greenfield sales director Mike Wing said: “It is a good opportunity to be seen by our customer base.”
