Hurry up with East Kilbride Dobbies, says MP

An MP has called for Tesco and Dobbies garden centres to move faster to build a joint centre.

Tesco plans to build a branch in East Kilbride jointly with Dobbies.

A previous planning application lodged with South Lanarkshire for a Tesco, Dobbies, hotel, restaurants and a petrol station was originally approved in 2010.

Site agents JHAG have since lodged a proposal of application notice which will be followed by a revised planning application to be considered at a future meeting of the council's planning committee for a single shared entrance joint Tesco/Dobbies store.

Michael McCann, the MP for East Kilbride, said: "I have to confess to being disappointed that Tesco's timetable doesn't involve an immediate construction plan, particularly when you consider the battle royal that took place to have the site approved in the first place.

"We need the investment, we need the jobs and we need Tesco to get on with it."
