Hull Gateway and LDA Design submit detailed designs for city's West Park scheme

Detailed designs for the initial phase for the regeneration of Hull's historic West Park have been submitted for planning permission by Hull Gateway.

The West Park scheme is a part of a wider £400m regeneration of Newington and St Andrews in west Hull.

LDA Design was appointed as lead designer by Hull Gateway to begin the estimated £7m revitalisation of West Park.

Collaborating with sub-consultant artist Jason Bruges Studio, key elements have been designed for the first phase -- the £1.4m project to redesign the main entrance.

New artworks will be installed in the entrance square, to give the nearby listed Carnegie library building an enhanced setting. Two paths will connect the park gateway with Hull City's Kingston Communications football stadium, which is located within West Park.

"We are pleased to play a part in the exciting transformation of West Park," said LDA Design project leader Bernie Foulkes. "We have striven to incorporate the historic background of the park in many of the detailed design elements, which will give West Park a contemporary and striking entrance without forgetting its heritage."

Pending approval, the first stage of work is expected to begin early next year, to be completed by summer 2010.
