Plans were set out to promote bedding and other opportunities to boost sales at a meeting at RHS Wisley at the end of October.
The HTA Bedding Plant Group is developing a palette of red, white and blue bedding plants to be promoted by the HTA through retailers. They will be planted prominently at RHS gardens across the country during spring and summer next year.
The group will help the RHS with its Award of Garden Merit trials by providing a list of the top 25 bedding plants species by volume and giving guidance on prioritising which species should be trialled first.
RHS director of horticulture Jim Gardiner said: "With the RHS and HTA working closely together there will inevitably be benefits for the industry that should translate into greater plant sales."
