HTA records 15 per cent increase in year on year garden centre sales for September

The latest figures from the HTA Garden Retail Monitor show that garden retail sales were ahead by 10 per cent to the end of September compared with 2013.

Meanwhile sales in September were 15 per cent ahead of the same month in 2013 thanks to dry and warm weather.

By August retail sales were two per cent ahead, July one per cent and June eight per cent down.

GCA figures meanwhile indicate that September 2014 was around seven per cent up on the same month in 2013, and a similar amount up for the year to date.

GfK also recorded a strong performance for the DIY/gardening sector in September, up 10.6 per cent month on month, driven by good performance across many of the gardening product categories, according to market analysts GfK.

Strong performance has continued into October with garden retailers reporting sales up by up to 20 per cent. See more in the next edition of Horticulture Week magazine, published on November 14th.
