HTA National Plant Show visitor numbers top 1500

More than 1500 visitors attended the Horticultural Trade Association's inaugural National Plant Show at Stoneleigh Park this week, far outstripping some pre-show estimates.

The event has been widely praised by retailers and growers alike who welcomed its timing and strong plant focus.

Garden Centre Group CEO Nicholas Marshall, who brought 200 staff including the company’s directors, described it as a fantastic show.

"We think it is very important to support UK growers and in the future we will put greater emphasis not only on UK suppliers but regional suppliers where our focus will be on quality and depth of range."

Dobbies Garden Centres category manager for plants Neil Fishlock agreed, saying the show had "exceeded expectations by a long way."

He added:  "The standard of displays was really strong and the event provided us with the opportunity to talk with lots of suppliers who we would not normally get to see - well done all."

Growers also praised the event, with many reporting good business over the two days.

Whetman Pinks operations director Andrew Spilsbury said:  "The show had a great vibrant feel and the venue was good. In a short space of time we made a number of really good new contacts."
