The group agreed at its last meeting to change to the new name, which has been chosen to better reflect the nature of the industry.
HTA business development director Tim Briercliffe said:
"The thinking behind it is that the term bedding doesn’t demonstrate what the group is about. Bedding growers are producing annuals and also perennials. They are producing seasonal plants that may not be there next year.
"The technical definition of bedding plants is not relevant, and the longer we carry on with that name the less good it does for the group. So we’ve decided to bite the bullet and make the change.
"There is room for debate over what the best name would be because there is no term to fully describe it, but seasonal plants hopefully better reflects the industry."
