Hot weather could increase garden retail sales by £158m finds report

Industry analyst Research and Markets' says sales in the garden retail sector fell by 10.8 per cent in 2012 but the hot weather could increase sales by £158m this summer.

The analyst's latest report says gardening will return to growth in 2013, but "the exceptionally cold weather at the start of the year has impacted the potential for a stronger recovery".

The report forecasts that gardening is set to take a greater share of the overall DIY & gardening market up to 2017, gaining a 0.6 per cent share of the market to have almost a third of the market.

This growth will be driven by people seeing their garden as an extra room and wanting to maintain it more, say report authors.
