Hosepipe bans ruled out by utility firm for the year ahead

Thames Water has confirmed that there will be no hosepipe bans this year.

A representative said: "After 2012 being the wettest year in history, reservoirs are full. In 2013 we had normal rainfall so there will be no hosepipe ban in 2014. The ban in 2012 followed two of the driest years on record."

But the HTA is to carry on campaigning to make water companies take a "more phased approach" to bans.

HTA horticulture head Raoul Curtis-Machin said: "We need to keep our foot on the gas even thought we've had a couple of wet seasons so they are not taking an all-or-nothing approach.

"No one wants a hosepipe ban but we are going to lobby in 2014 to make sure that when we next get one we're in a better position."
