Ground Control, the UK’s fastest-growing external landscape services provider, offers services in ecology, design, arboriculture, vegetation management, landscape construction and grounds maintenance. The landscaping construction division offers a full portfolio of soft landscaping, hard landscaping, design and fencing services, carrying out works up to £5m in value.

Turnover for the landscape construction division alone to March 2017 was just over £26m and forecast to reach £30.5m by the end of March 2018. Since the start of 2018, the division has begun delivering works for more than 15 new clients and taken sales of £6.6m.

The business also delivers traditional landscaping for main contractor and local authority clients such as BAM, Laing O’Rourke, various London boroughs and private clients such as the RHS and Kew Gardens.

Ground Control has a client retention rate of 99.2%, supported by a strong focus on customer service, new technology and key account management. Accredited to ISO9001, the business refreshes staff credentials and skills throughout their employment via its internal training arm. Competitive industry salaries, performance bonuses and benefits such as the option to buy annual leave help to drive staff motivation, while achievement is recognised through awards and company celebrations.

The firm approaches project management with a non-confrontational collaborative working method. Works are delivered according to a standard operating procedure aligned with accredited management systems that can be developed to meet clients’ requirements. Project stakeholders including local schools, businesses and residents are identified and engaged.

Throughout all projects, Ground Control demonstrates its commitment to providing a safe environment for staff and stakeholders while minimising disruption or inconvenience as a result of works. Six dedicated health and safety professionals ensure its belief that "no job is so urgent that it cannot be delivered safely" is instilled throughout the entire workforce.

In 2012, the company published a business plan for the following five years that projected achieving group turnover "in excess of £100m in revenue by 2020". The business is on track to exceed this target this year and has since reassessed the business plan to consider new acquisitions and developments.

Highly commended
