BDP Landscape has built up a successful portfolio of projects on a local, national and international scale with a 58-strong team of landscape professionals operating from offices in the UK, the Netherlands and India. Over the past year it has continued to grow this portfolio of work in the UK and overseas, in particular in Ireland, where the practice is now working on three projects with its Dublin studio. The business has also this year been commissioned to work on masterplanning schemes in Turkey, Vietnam and Canada.
BDP has a strong track record of winning repeat work with existing clients. For example, it has been working with the London Borough of Lewisham since 2005 on the creation of a comprehensive network of parks and open spaces, and with Grosvenor since 2007 on a masterplan vision and multiple public realm improvement schemes in Mayfair and Belgravia.
Lewisham’s project manager for regeneration and asset management Alison Taylor says the BDP landscape team is "creative, responsive and collaborative", adding: "Their communication is excellent — with clients, contractors and other consultants — and their commitment to deliver high-quality open spaces that work for the community is unswerving."
Current projects include a broad range of high-quality schemes, many of which are pushing the boundaries of green infrastructure innovation and sustainable design. They include Beckenham Place Park in Lewisham, where BDP is transforming the space into what will be the largest public park in south-east London. Improvements include a new recreation lake, associated wetlands, restoration of pleasure gardens, extensive habitat creation and new planting.
For the Green Spine project in Westminster, BDP has been challenged to design "London’s most liveable neighbourhood". A key goal is to blur the boundaries between streets and parks in an urban environment.
BDP’s landscape proposals for the phase 4 building at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital incorporate calm, accessible and reflective external spaces at high level that make full use of the natural environment.
Mindful of the need to "give something back", BDP’s senior landscape architects participate in design review panels, where they make a positive impact by ensuring design quality and improvements to the landscape environment in urban and rural contexts. Other initiatives include collaboration with the Landscape Institute on its pioneering apprenticeship programme and participation in Open House London.
