Homebase sales figures down

Homebase figures for the six months to 30 August 2008 saw like-for-like sales down 10.3%.

Benchmark operating profit was down 37% at the garden/DIY store. Home Retail Group chief executive Terry Duddy said:

"The challenging conditions look set to remain for some time, and indeed have worsened in the turbulent recent weeks. If they continue through our peak trading months of November and December, the profit outcome for the year could be around the bottom of current market expectations."
