HDC publishes pesticide resistance report

The HDC has published a cross-sector fact sheet on how to prevent and manage insecticide, fungicide and herbicide resistance for horticultural crops.

Action points include to inspect and quarantine bought-in plant material and get records of pesticides used by the supplier, to minimise reliance on pesticides by implementing integrated pest, disease and weed management systems, and to monitor crops if using biological pest control agents so pesticide use can be restricted.

Other action points include to use pesticides at the label rate and adhere to the label instructions, to use pesticides from a variety of action groups to minimise resistance, to use sequential applications of individual insecticides from different mode of action groups and not to use pesticides when target organisms have resistance.

Factsheet 01/13 is by David Talbot, John Atwood, Jude Bennison, Mike Grimmer, Mike Lole and Tim O'Neill of ADAS.
