Gunn becomes editor of HDC title

A new role beckons for Spence Gunn.

Horticulture Week columnist and former editor Spence Gunn is the new editor of HDC News, taking over from another former HW editor Jim Deen. Deen is retiring to Ireland after seven years at the HDC. Gunn’s first issue, out next week, will feature an HDC project on irrigation efficiency in container nursery stock. Gunn, who will be working with Claire Shaddick in his new role, said: “Jim will be a hard act to follow but I’m looking forward to it. As I’m taking over that job I feel that my column in HW should cease — this week sees the last one. I enjoyed writing it every week.” But this will not necessarily be the last we see of Gunn in HW. He said: “I’m doing the new job on a freelance basis, so I could well be writing a feature for Horticulture Week now and again.” Deen said: “I have really enjoyed my time with HDC News but I always aimed to retire at 60 and I am doing so.”
