Growers achieve price rises of 6%

Growers have achieved price rises of up to six per cent in recent months, HTA president Andrew Richardson has said.

The Johnsons of Whixley director said landscapers are booming but costs - particularly fuel - mean plant prices have had to rise.

He said prices had barely risen for a decade, but retailers and small contractors have now realised plant price rises are acceptable.

"Landscape and garden centre customers know how our costs have risen. But if we'd put prices up a little bit every year for 10 years we wouldn't have had to do this."

He added: "The economy is on its uppers according to the media but at Johnsons we're doing well with sales and I think that's indicative of the whole industry."
