Launching into a brand new market and within 18 months winning plaudits from customers who just happen to include some of the biggest names in the sector takes not just courage, but exceptional effort, determination and skill.

This exceptional effort has rightfully earned Lovania Nurseries this year's award of Grower of the Year - Ornamentals; in other words our judges have judged it the best of the best in its sector.

It is not hard to see why - with first year sales of £2.17m from a standing start for Lovania's new alpine business followed by £3.3m in 2011 and a customer base of more than 420 centres.

Lovania's customer testimonials include a ringing endorsement from Garden Centre Group, which describes the nursery as "instrumental" in helping the chain drive alpine sales forward in 2011.

Meanwhile, Dobbies cites Lovania's product quality as helping to increase sales in the product group by 25 per cent.
